TECHNOPOLIS

Public commission by Skövde council for Rosenhaga nursery, May 2009.
Material: Acrylic glass and an interactive Led light installation.

The title of the project comes from a music video with the japanese 80s pop group YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra). A utopian neon cityscape among the clouds, playful pianos flying in space, Bladerunner is filtered through Barbapappa. The flatness of the plexiglass is contrasted against the positioning of the different parts, creating a kaleidoscopic 3D effect. The sketch process is done by hand with cut-outs, a lowtech technique often used in nurserys. The finished work is made by laser cut acrylic glass, a costly high tech solution, which brings an interesting clash to the idea of people's perception of the nursery.
In collaboration with the staff at Rosenhaga, who works with the Reggio Emilia pedagogy, there is and interactive led light installation in multi-colour. The children can press all the buttons and dim the light, make it blink, and change colours themselves.
The nursery is already working with light and plexiglass in their Education plan and is able to use the project for educational purposes.
